the painting process

wonder is the greatest of passions” Descartes. I create original paintings – with a desire to plant the seed of wonder.

I start with high-quality, custom-made birch wood panels. Just the wood and the pencil and a technique that is my own adaption of a method of traditional botanical painting. I allow the grain of the wood to dictate the placement of my composition, letting nature run its course through my flowering images. I then use thin veilings of colour with acrylic paint and depth with fade-proof pigment ink, to bring my paintings to life. Before sealing the wood for protection with Windsor and Newton matte or satin oil varnish, which is suitable for acrylic paint, gives a beautiful finish and works to protect your piece.
